116. Aesop' Fables - The One Eye Doe

Once there lived a beautiful doe in a forest.

Though the doe was admirable, it had only one eye. Due this the doe could not balance her vision. She was unable to see the any approaching enemy from the flawed side of the eye and hence went to the high cliff near the sea for gazing. While gazing she used her other eye to keep a watch on the land below. Very often the doe escaped the trapped of hunters and attack of beasts by seeing them from the height. She ran away when she saw any approaching threat to the other side of the cliff and concealed under the rocks there.

However, the group of hunters which often came to the forest near the cliff learned that the doe was one eyed when one of them saw the doe closely. They had always admired the doe for its lustrous unflawed skin and wanted to kill the doe for it. So, they planned a scheme to kill the doe.

The hunters hired a boat and went rowing near the cliff. That day, when the doe came for gazing, the hunter shot her from their boat. The doe died saying, ‘you cannot escape your fate’.

Moral: What has to happen will happen. In other words, we can deceive our destiny.

Proverb: You cannot escape your fate.

(Reference - A Doe is a female dear, or a female ferret or a female reindeer).
