Long ago in a far forest, there lived an elephant.
One day, a pack of wolves was roaming the forest to find food,when they saw the elephant resting under a tree and munching its fresh leaves.
The wolves were hungry and wanted to make the elephant their food. One of the old wolves of the pack was slg and clever. He said, "Though the elephant is big and strong, I have a plan to kill it for our food".
The old wolf went to the elephant and politely said, "O mighty elephant! I vow to you."
The elephant raised his trunk and said, "Where are you from? Who are you?"
The old wolf, "I am an old wolf and live in this forest with my group of family and friends. We are small animals of forest. We needed to be protected and guided by a king. You are strong, wise, powerful and would make ideal king. The forest animals want you to be the king of this forest".
The elephant was listening carefully to the wolf. The wolf further said, "O mighty elephant, according the astrologers, today is auspicious day crowning ceremony. I request you to accept the kingship and follow me for the ceremony."
The elephant was carried away by the wolf's talk. He accepted the offer and starting following the wolf.
So the sly wolf walked deep in the forest. Then he took way across a muddy lake. The elephant who was following the wolf, entered the muddy lake and got stuck in it. He called out the wolf to help him. But the wolf refused saying he is old and cannot help a heavy animal like him.
The elephant repented trusting the cunning wolf.
The wolf watched as the elephant helplessly sank into the mud and died. He howled to call the other wolves of pack. The pack ate the dead elephant.
Moral: Never trust humble words of cunning persons.
