Once a Bhuddist student came to the Zen school of Gasan. He studied Zen for many years at Gasan's abode.
After years of learning, when he was set to leave, his preacher Gasan said, 'When you study and learn the truths they are speculative. In a way you collect preaching material without implementing them. To implement your learning, you must meditate on what you have learned, failing which the guidance and light of truth you seek may extinguish and leave you in darkness which you were in that the beginning of discourse'.
