One day the courtiers were asked to assemble in the total court for a ceremony. While all courtiers and members of royal family gathered, Birbal came late.
Akbar was keenly waiting for Birbal. He was annoyed that Birbal came late for attending the ceremony. Akbar asked him, 'Birbal, tell us why are you late?'
Birbal apologized and explained, 'My Majesty, I became late because my child was crying. I had to placate him'.
Akbar angrily said, 'Birbal does it takes so long to pacify a child? It appears to me that you do not know nothing about baby keeping. I will show you; let pretend play - yow be a child and I shall be your father. Now ask me for whatever you child asked you'.
Birbal agreed. He asked Akbar, 'Father, father get me cow'.
Akbar asked his men to bring a cow.
Birbal came into a jolly mood. Then he asked Akbar, 'Father, father I want milk from his cow'.
Akbar asked his men, 'Milk this cow. Give the milk to Birbal'. The servants did as Akbar asked them to do. Birbal enjoyed the milk and then left some part of it. He gave the glass with remaining milk to Akbar and said, 'Father, father I am filled. Now put this remaining milk back into the cow'. Birbal wailed over his demand as a child.
Akbar was taken aback. He was wordless and asked Birbal to settle for serious discussions in the court.
