Very very far in time, the God created the world. Time began and creatures came into existence. Lord Vishnu lived near the sea shore where an adorable pair of seagulls nested.
The female seagull laid eggs every years but they were swept away by the massive sea waves. This continued to happen for years, until one day the seagulls decided to approach Lord Vishnu and ask for his help.
When the seagulls went to Lord Vishnu and told him about their recurrent losses, he swallowed the sea in a massive gulp.
After the Lord Vishnu swallowed the sea, the relics surfaced as the face of Mother Earth. Lord Vishnu who was exhausted by the immense feat of swallowing up the vast sea laid down for resting and soon fell asleep.
While Vishnu was asleep, the demon Hiranyaksha (meaning the golden eyed) came on the shore. The demon wanted to weaken the Gods in heaven. He knew that the Gods derived their powers from Earth and its dwellers. So Hiranyaksha decided to terribly assaulted the Earth while Lord Vishnu was asleep.
Hiranyaksha was a powerful demon. He used this celestial weaponry against Earth and gave her severe injuries. He broke her limbs and caused her to slip from her axis. The Earth gave a cry of anguish and distress.
Hiranakshya then took Earth to the bottom of universe (Patal-lok the adode of demons). This caused a massive catastrophe threatening the entire existence on Earth. Seeing the turmoil and impending tragedy, the Gods in Heaven approached Lord Vishnu and asked him to save the Earth.
Lord Vishnu incarnated as boar (third incarnation called Varaha). He appeared from Brahma's nostril as boar and took a dive into cosmic ocean following Hiranyaksha. Hiranyaksha battled against Vishnu in a war that continued for over thousand years. He was eventually slayed by Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu returned to his original form after Lord Shiva flayed his pelt.
The boar searched for Earth and found her lying in sea of ether in an odd inclination which caused the day cycle to reduce. The mighty boar carried the Earth on its protruding teeth back in cosmic space and positioned to revolve around the sun.
The broken limbs of Earth faced upwards and formed the mighty Himalayas.
