25. Whatever Happens, Happens for Our Good

One afternoon Akbar was sitting in a relaxed mood with his favorite courtiers including Birbal. They talked on various matters, laughed and jeered. They were served with various fruits by the royal staff.

Akbar attempted to slice a mango, but he injured his finger. There was blood oozing out if the wound, when Birbal said, 'My Majesty, do not worry. For whatever happens, happens for your own good'. Akbar was troubled by pain and Birbal's comment came as salt on the fresh would. He was shocked and irked to hear what Birbal said to justify the mishap. The comment was unpleasing, and upsetting. Akbar decided to teach a lesson to Birbal.

Next day Akbar send a word for Birbal. He asked him to come early so that they can go together for hunting. Akbar was very found of hunting.

Birbal came and together they left for hunting. After hours of wandering around, when they were in the middle of deep forest, Akbar said, 'Birbal, I am very thirsty. Can you get some water from this well?'

It was an abandoned well. Birbal pleasingly got down his horse to fetch water. He used a rope to get down the well. Soon as Birbal reached the bottom of the well, Akbar pulled out the rope and said, 'Birbal! Stay here. Because whatever happens, happens for your own good'.

Akbar left Birbal in the middle of forest in the well. The day had started coming to an end. Evening fell upon and it started becoming dark.

Akbar went ahead, but soon he realized that he had lost his way. He got down his horse to rest for a while, but was eyed by forest tribals. They captured him and took him to their chief.

The chief ordered a sacrificial ceremony to please their Goddess. They fed Akbar with sweets and adored him with flowers and garland before beheading him. Just when they were about to behead him, one of them yelled, 'The man cannot be offered to the Goddess. He had an incision on this finger'.

The tribals liberated Akbar. Akbar was shaking with fear and remorse. He hurriedly got on his horse. Though, it was late in the night Akbar went searching for the well where he left Birbal.
During the early hours of morning, Akbar found the well. Birbal laid curdled up in sleep. Akbar threw the rope into the well and called him. Birbal saluted Akbar with a warm smile. When he came up, Akbar hugged him and apologized to him.

But Birbal smiled and said, 'My Majesty, good you left me in this well, else they would have sacrificed me instead of me'. Birbal once again win Akbar's heart. They returned back happily.
