Once there lived an ox named Big Red with his younger brother Little Red on a large farm. They carted the entire day on the farm.
The farm had many other animals such the chicks, roosters, turkeys and the pigs.
The man who owned the farm had a daughter. The daughter was dated to be married soon, so the house mistress asked the farm keepers to lavishly feed the pig and let it grow fat. It would then be slaughtered do the wedding feast.
So the farm keepers gave the pig excessive fodder. Soon the Little Red noticed how lavishly the pig was fed. He told his elder brother, "Brother, we work so hard and get only dry straw and grass to eat. See this lazy bumpy pig - he does nothing and gets to enjoy the lavish food, why is it so?"
The elder Red smiled and said, "Brother, need not envy this pig. You should in fact pity him, as he is eating food of death. The pig is being fattened for wedding feast of master's daughter. Dear brother, keep working and be contented with what you have'.
Day by day, the pig grew fatter and fatter. Finally the wedding day arrived. The mistress asked the farm keepers to slaughter the pig.
The fat pig was killed and feasted upon. The ox brother watched in pity. The little ox said, "Brother, you were right. We shod always be contended with what we have. We shall continue working and eating this dry straw for years. But the poor pig was fed lavishly, but it did not last long."
