What is Bodhi Tree?

Bodhi Tree is the sacred tree of India.
The word Bodhi is a Sanskrit word meaning enlightenment, and the tree is signifies the state of enlightenment. Hence it is also called 'the tree of enlightenment'.
It is believed that Lord Buddha gained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. He even sat and preached under this sacred tree.
The Bodhi tree is massive tree that grows over 30 metres high with wide canopy, large branches and large leaves.
The scientific name of Bodhi Tree is Ficus religiousa and it belongs to the mulberry family.
