Fun Facts About Butterflies

1. Butterflies do not have mouths and they taste with their feet where taste buds are located.
2. Butterflies need sun to fly. Hence they fly only during the day.
3. Butterflies cannot see all colors. They can only see red, yellow, and green.
4. Butterflies cannot fly if it is too cold. They need warmth to fly.
5. The skeleton of butterflies is located outside their body to protect their fragile bodies. The skeleton also prevents water from evaporating and prevents drying up of their bodies.
6. The wings of a butterfly have tiny scales and are transparent.
7. The beautiful colours and patterns in the wings of the butterfly are due to the presence of scales in their wings. Due to scales the wings donot appear to be transparent.

If is said that knowledge multiplies when it is passed on. The more we delve into a subject, the more understanding we get about it.

1. The Earth was formed 4.6 billion years ago. This is the age of the Earth.

2. The Earth is a part of Solar System. It is the fifth largest planet located at the third position from the Sun.

3. The Earth appears blue from the cosmos due to the oceans which cover a major part of its surface. Due to this, Earth is also referred to as Blue Planet.

4. The Earth has the highest density among all the planets in the solar system.

5. The Earth is not a perfect sphere. It is flattened at the poles.

6. The Earth moves around the sun. This is called Revolution. The revolution causes the seasons to change on the Earth.

7. The sun's rays reach the Earth at a speed of 8 minutes and 3 seconds.

8. The Earth has only 1 moon, the Jupiter has nine.

9. The average diameter of the Earth is 12,742 kilometers.

Indian Patriotic Songs (National Anthem, National Song and Anthem of India)

We all know that India was under the Great British Rule for several years. The country was liberated from the foreign rule with the struggle of great Indian freedom fighters and martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the nations. There are many patriotic songs complied in honor of these great men. These songs help the children understand the freedom struggle of India.

Singing and learning these songs will make your child feel proud of country.

Indian National Anthem (Jana Gana Mana)
The song Jana Gana Mana (meaning the minds of all people) was originally written in Bengali by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The song was first performed in 1911 at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress. It was adopted as the National Anthem on 24 January 1950. The complete song consists of five stanzas and a formal performance of the song takes fifty two seconds.

India National Song - Vande Maatram
The National Song of India is the 'Vande Maatram'. It was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and first appeared in his book ''Anandamatha''. The song has a mix of Sanskrit and Bengali languages. The tune for this song was set by Jadunath Bhattacharya .
The song had become the national cry for freedom during the freedom struggle of India.

Saare Jahan Se Achcha

The patriotic poem song ‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha’ was composed by Sir Allama Muhammad Iqbal in 1904 in Urdu language. It is also known as Tarane-e-Hindi (the Anthem of India). The poem is written in praise of India and preaches harmony between people of various religions and sects.

National Symbols of India

National Emblem
The National Emblem of India is the Sarnath Lion Capital.  The motto ' Satyameva Jayate' is inscribed below the emblem in Devanagari script. It means 'truth alone wins'.


The emblem is an adaptation from the Sarnath Lion Capital of Emperor Ashoka and is a symbol of country’s commitment towards world peace and goodwill.
The emblem has four lions (one hidden from view) standing on a circular abacus which is girded by four smaller animals - the lion of the North, the elephant of the East, the horse of the South and the bull of the West. The abacus rests on a lotus in full bloom, representing origin of life. 

National Flag
The National Flag of India is a horizontal Tricolor comprising of saffron, white and green colors. 

The saffron band stands for courage, sacrifice and the spirit of renunciation, white stands for purity, peace and truth; while green for faith and productivity. The center of white band has a navy blue wheel called the Dharma Chakra. The Dharma Chakra has been adapted from the Sarnath Lion Capital emblem. It has 24 spokes and denotes the continuity of the nation’s progress.

National Fruit
The National Fruit of India is the Mango.

Mango is one of the most widely cultivated fruits of the tropical world. The mango tree finds a sacred place in India. It is considered as a symbol of love and it is believed that the mango tree can grant wishes.

National Animal
The National Animal of India is the Royal Bengal Tiger.


The tiger has orange-brown fur with black stripes. It symbolizes grace, strength, agility and enormous power. It hunts almost all wild animals even the big elephants. The average lifespan of a tiger is around twenty years. 
National Flower
The National Flower of India is the Lotus.

The lotus (also called the water lily) is an aquatic plant with broad floating leaves. It has bright fragrant flowers (white or pink color) which grow in shallow waters. The lotus symbolizes purity, beauty, majesty, grace, fertility, wealth, knowledge and serenity.

National Bird
The National Bird of India is the Peacock.


The peacock is a beautiful bird with brilliant iridescent blue-green plumage. It has a fan-shaped crest of feathers, a white patch under the eye and a long, slender neck. It has a beautiful tail which spreads out for over a meter.
The peacock is fully protected under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and its poaching is strictly prohibited. 

National Tree
The National Tree of India is the Fig (Banyan) tree.

It is interesting to know that the fig tree starts its life on another plant. It sustains on nutrients drawn from the host plant. After establishing itself, it sends down auxiliary roots from its branches. These roots become auxiliary trunk and support the tree. The tree gradually spreads by multiplying its auxiliary branches. The banyan tree is considered immortal. Because of its peculiar characteristics, the tree is an integral part of the myths and legends of India.

National Game
The National Game of India is Hockey.
The game of hockey was brought to India by British servicemen, who formed the first club for hockey in Calcutta in 1885. The Beighton Cup and the Aga Khan Tournament are associated with the game of hockey.

The game entered Olympic Games in 1928 and India won all five of its games without conceding a goal and went on to win from 1932 until 1956 and then in 1964 and 1980.
