143. Aesop Fables - The Peacock' Compliant

In a far forest, there lived a beautiful peacock. During rains, it would spread its features and dance beautifully. However, the peacock was sad. It was unhappy with its unpleasant voice. It kept complaining about its voice most of time.

The peacock had a friend who was a fox. The fox knew that peacock was unhappy with its voice and convinced it, saying, 'O friend! It is certainly true that you cannot sing, but you are the most beautiful bird'.

But the peacock was disheartened and sorrow stricken. He replied, 'Friend, this beauty seems worthless to me with such unpleasing voice'.

The fox was wise. It explained, 'Friend, look at all the animals and birds around you- each one has given some special fifty by the God. The nightingale has been gifted with a melodies voice, owl has powerful eyes, bats can fly without eyes, the tiger has enormous strength, and you have such unmatched beauty. If you would have a good voice, you would start complaining about another thing- may be you feet! You should be contended with what you have'.

Moral: (1) We should be thankful to God for the good things he has given us. (2) Be contended with what you have.
