Once a tortoise saw an eagle sitting on a rock. The tortoise became friends with the eagle.
The tortoise often admired how high its eagle friend could fly in the sky. It also liked that the eagle could stay for so long in the sky without getting tired. He thought of eagle as an expert flier and one day he asked the eagle to teach him how to fly.
The eagle was wise. She explained, 'Friend, flying is a gift of God given to certain creatures. You body is not made for flying. Its lacks the wings and make. You have excellent flaps for swimming. I suggest that you enjoy swimming and be what you are. As a bird I always enjoy flying and I have never longed to swim. Friend, appreciate what you are'.
But the tortoise was stuck. He was carried away by the joys of flying! He pleaded the eagle to help him learn how to fly.
The eagle finally gave up explaining the tortoise and took him on his talons. They flew slowly first, then gradually sped up and began flying high. All this while he told the tortoise how to use wings and balance the body. He then asked the tortoise to practice it and let him go.
Soon as the eagle released the tortoise, he attempted flying but was unable to do so with his flaps. His body was heavily and under the pull of gravity he came down heavily and smashed on the rocks. The tortoise died.
Moral: (1) Always is listen and follow wise counsel. (2) Understand your capabilities and never compete beyond them.
