149. Aesop's Fables - The Greedy Camel

One day a camel saw a bullock. The bullock had sturdy horns which could be used as a means of offense and defense. Knowing this, the camel was filled with sadness and envy. He decided to approach Lord Jupiter who made all living beings.

The camel went to Lord Jupiter and said, 'O Lord! Why gave you deprived me of horns which strengthen the bullocks?'

Lord Jupiter got angry when he heard the camel. He replied in disgust, 'O camel! I have given you a tall body, paddy feet, long eyelashes and ability to live without water for days together. Why do you desire more? You should acknowledge that the bull with the horns has no such superior capabilities by nature. I am amazed that you are asking me more instead of thanking me!'

The camel realized his mistake. He was filled with shame hearing the words of enlightenment by Lord Jupiter'.

The angry God Jupiter thundered, 'You have disrespected the nature existence. I cannot grant your wish to have horns'. Saying this, the God swirled his wedge which tore off a part of camel's ear'.

The camel who was filled with shame and remorse, wanted to pleaded sorry to the God. But the wrath he received was too painful. The camel ran away in fear and remorse.

Moral: (1) It is said, grass is always greener on the other side. It means we do not acknowledge and praise what we have. We appreciate and allure what other people have and desire for it. (2) Do not be greedy. Do not desire for others possessions
