One year it went dry as there were no rains. The forest animals were in dire need of water.
In the forest, there lived a group of wasps and partridges. The members of the group were good friends. They decided to approach the farmer who had a farm near the forest.
So the thirsty birds and wasps went to the farmer and said, 'O farmer, pity us! There has been no rain and the lakes and other standing waters in the forest have dried due to heat. We are very thirsty. We plead you to give us some water to quench our thirst. We would accept it as a debt and promise you to repay it when you ask us'.
The farmer replied, 'I will give you all water. But promise me to help me increase the farm yield'.
The wasps and partridges discussed among themselves. Then they revealed their promise to the farmer in want of water - 'We would dig deep around the vines so that finer grapes are produced' said the partridges.
'We will guard your farm from intruders and parasites', the wasps promised.
The farmer who has been listening to them all this while, now interrupted and said, 'I have two sturdy bullocks who guard my farm and help me in ploughing. What more can you offer me? If not, it is better to rear my bulls and give them water rather than giving it to you all who visiting me from far forest just for quenching your thirst'.
Moral: (1) Make friends who can help you in time of adversity. (2) Before offering any help or gift to anyone gauze its value for the person.
