Two Brother Birds – Jatayu And Sampati

Theme: Altruism or self sacrifice

Once, there lived two humanoid birds named Sampati and his younger brother Jatayu. They were born to Arun who was the charioteer of Sun God.

Sampati and Jatayu were mystical birds. Morphologically, had a human body and bore vast wings. They were versed in scriptures.

One day, the young Sampati and Jatayu desired to meet their father Arun. So they decided to fly high. When they flew very high, the young bird Jatayu was agonized by the intense heat of sun. But he continued to drift higher in vain. When his elder brother Sampati saw him, he immediately flew above Jatayu to shield him. But the sun was fiery up there, and Sampati wings were burned down. He was tormented and fell on the seashore. He lived his life wingless thereafter.

Moral : Self sacrifice is the biggest sacrifice.
