100. Aesop's Fables - The Mischievous Dog

Once there lived a dog. He was very mischievous. He often quietly ran to feet of the people who passed by the street and bit them.

Tired of his antics, one day the dog's master tied a bell around his neck to that the bell alerts the people of the dog's presence. But the dog though of the bell as a mark of distinction and pride. He proudly roamed around the streets, tinkling the bell.

Days passed and the dog continued to boast around with his bell. One day, he met an old hound.

The old hound said, 'Dear friend, the bell you wear is not a matter of pride. You should understand that your master belled you to alert people against you. It is not in your merit or pride, but a mark of disgrace which tell that you are not well behaved and people should be aware of your presence'.

The dog was ashamed to hear the hound. From that day he stopped roaming around in pride and quietly sat around the place. He stopped biting the people and became a good animal.

Moral: Notoriety is often mistaken for fame.
