90. Aesop Fables - The Rose and the Amaranth

Once a rose and Amaranth plants blossomed near each other in a garden.

One day the Amaranth said to the rose plant, ‘You are very beautiful. Your flowers smell so sweet. There is no wonder that roses are universally known for their beauty and fragrance. I envy you!’

The rose was plant was however sad. It replied in a distressing note, ‘Dear Amaranth, you should not envy me. My flowers are beautiful and carry great fragrance, but they are short lived and wither away in few days. I die after few flowers blossom on my branches. You should appreciate and merit the fact that your flowers blossom throughout the year even if they are cut and they are everlasting and not short lived like my flowers'.

Moral: Never envy people with merits, because greatness comes its own penalties.
