43. Aesop's Fables - The Lion's Lost Wig

Once there lived a lion in a jungle. The lion had become old and weak. He even lost his mane.

One day the lion went to drink water and saw his shadow in the pond water. He was embarrassed to see his lost mane and decided to wear a wig.

The lion soon got a wig and often came to pond to admire his new looks. One day when he was returning to his cave after drinking water from the pond, the weather went bad. The clouds came over and strong winds began to blow. So he claimed up a small mountain and took shelter in a cave. While he was waiting for the wind to stop, he saw a beautiful tigress passing through the lane. The old lion went down quickly and smiled at the tigress. He wanted to make an impression on the tigress and bowed before her warmly.

But the lion had forgotten that he wore a wig. Soon a strong gush of wind blew off his wig. The tigress laughed out loudly seeing the bald lion. The lion was embarrassed and ran away from there.

The lion regretted putting up a false appearance and never wore wig again.

Moral: (1) Never pretend to be what are not. (2) Wit always has an answer ready.
