Once there lived a group of weasels in a forest. One year there was severe draught and the weasels moved from away from the forest in hope of finding food. They crossed the forest boundary and reached the nearby village.
The village had an abandoned house which was occupied by mice.
The weasels decided to settle in the garden premises of the abandoned house. They found food and shade in the garden and started spending time happily. Soon the mice came to know about the weasels. They became very angry.
'How can they enter our territory without our permission? The garden place they have occupied is used by us for festival events and gathering. We should ask them to leave the place immediately!', said the king of mice.
So the king of mice and his council of minister went to the weasels. They asked the weasels to abandon the garden and house premises. But the weasel chief refused. He argued, 'This house belongs to the humans. If we do not have the right to occupy it, you mice should leave the place as well'.
The king of mice was infuriated to hear the weasels. He said, 'We occupied the house before you, therefore you must leave'.
A long argument continued between them, until the king of mice threatened the weasels to raise a war against them. The weasels agreed to fight against any attack by the mice.
So the king of mice went back and prepared his army for the war. Soon the mice attack the weasels and the war began. There was large killing and much bloodshed. The weasels were strong and defeated the mice. However the chief mice was arrogant and unyielding. He decided to again rage the war against the weasels. This time again the weasels won over the mice. Many mice were killed. However, the mice chief never gave up. He kept raising war against the weasels and lost every time.
Now the king of mice was worried. So he called his chief minister and asked him, 'Chief, our army is strong. Its been a long war, and we have been defeated every time. Do you see any reason for this?'
The chief minister was wise. He said, 'O king! Our army is strong , but there is no general to command them. They become directionless on the battlefield and each takes its own action. There is lack of command and discipline in our army which is leading to our defeat every time. I request you to find an ideal person to command our armies'.
The king was surprised to hear his chief minister. He realised his mistake and went on choose mice based on their strength, attitude, family descent and attributes such as fortitude, courageouness; etc. On further advise of his chief minister, the king of mice organised his army into troops, regiments, and
battalions. Together, they worked on a war plan and decided how and when to attack the enemy. The army generals who were set to command their forces bound their heads with straws so that they appear prominent to their respective forces.
Soon the mice re attacked the weasels. The weasels by their nature are stronger than mice. A great
rout overwhelmed the mice. They became sacred and scampered into their holes. The generals who had their heads lined with straws were unable to escape into the holes. They were caught and mercilessly killed by the weasels.
After sometime, when there was no message from the battlefield, the king of mice himself came out to see his army. He was soon caught by the weasels and killed.
Moral: (1) The more honor the more
danger (2) It is better to escape a stronger enemy than to fight and fail or loose one's life.
