The Killing of Demon Bakasura

One day the Pandav brothers were wandering in the forests with their mother Kunthi when they happen to reach a village named Ekachakra.

The Pandav built a hut there and started living there. He survived on begged food.

One day when the brothers were out for begging, their mother kunti heard a woman crying. She went out and asked the woman why was she lamenting.

The woman said, 'O gracious woman! The people of Ekachakra village are obligated to a demon named Bakasura. Earlier he came and destroyed our farms, killed our animals and children. So the villagers went and pleaded him to accept food from each house everyday instead of causing such mass destruction. The demon agreed and everyday someine from the village takes food to the demon. Today is my turn. I am widowed and have only son. If he takes food to the demon he will be killed by the demon. My heart is trembling thinking of it!'

Kunti consoled the woman. She said, 'I have five sons. You give food and one of sons will take it to the demon'.

The woman thanked Kjnti and gave her the food. When Pandavs returned, Kunti told them about the demon. She asked Bheema, the strongest of her sons to take the food to the demon.

Bheema, brother of Lord Hauman. They both were sons of Lord Vayu (Lord of Wind).

Bheema was fearless and gallant. He agreed to take food to the deon without second thought.

When Bheema reached the demon's cave, he started gobbling the food himself instead of offering it to the demon. When the demon saw this he got angry and said, 'You ate my food, now I will eat you'.

Bheema challenged the demon. They fought with each other. Bheema finally defeated the demon and killed him.

Bheema took the dead demon to the villagers. The villagers gratified Bheema and also appreciated Kunti's confidence in her son.
