66. Aesop's Fables - The Lion and the Mouse

Once there lived a lion in a jungle. He was very powerful and ruled the jungle.

One afternoon, the lion was resting after taking his meal. Just then a small mouse came running around. He saw the lion was sleeping and thought of a mischief.

The mouse began running up and down on the lion. He tickled the lion, and the lion woke up angrily from his sleep. He roared loudly and caught the mouse under his paw. He opened his jaws to swallow the mouse, but the mouse cried in pity saying, 'O mighty king of the jungle! Forgive me and let me go. I shall never disturb you again'.

The lion roared angrily again and said, 'Why should I let you go?'

The mouse timidly said, 'O King ! I shall return your favour one day'.

The lion was surprised to hear the mouse. The thought of a little mouse offering to help him in time of need tickled him, and the lion let the mouse go.

The mouse thanked the lion and said, 'O mighty lion, I shall come to your help when you need.

Days passed by and one day a group of hunters came in the jungle. They set a trap for the link and the lion was caught in it. The hunters went to fetch a wagon to carry the lion.

The ion roared helplessly in agony. Hearing him, the mouse came out its hole. He went to the lion and said, 'O mighty lion, I shall help you rescue this trap'.

The little mouse hurriedly gnawed away the trap and set the lion free.

The lion thanked the mouse and they became  good friends thereafter.

Moral: Do good and the good will come to you.
