11. Aesop's Fables - The Wolf and the Kid

Once there lived a wolf in a forest.

The wolf often attacked the people in the village. He was known to carry away kids while they played in open spaces around the houses.
The villagers tried to catch the wolf many times, but he always escaped.

One day the wolf was quietly passing a narrow lane between the houses. A kid who was playing on the rooftop saw the wolf. He angrily cried towards the wolf, 'O wicked fellow! Why have you come here again? You have taken away so many of my friends, and I shall never forgive you. Go away from this place you cheat, killer, thief! You should not come here. It is a place where honest folks resides, go away from here'.

The wolf laughed back. He said, 'Come down and curse me, I'll be more pleased!'

The kid replied, 'I am not here to please you. Go away you shrewd fellow'.

The wolf ran away as he saw people coming towards him.

Moral: It is easy to be brave from a safe distance.
