61. Aesop's Fables - The Lion, the Fox, and the Beasts

Once there lived a mighty lion in a jungle. He ruled the jungle with a firm fist. The other animals in jungle feared him.

One day the lion send a word to all animals of the jungle saying, 'I am now old and sick. I shall soon die. I will happy if you all come to see me for saying the final goodbye. I shall also spell  my testament and will which will help you all to keep peace and law after I die'.

The animals were surprised by the humble words of lion. First they were unable to believe the lion's words, but then it occured to them that the lion had been not hunting for sometime and may be was fatally ill. So thry decided to go to meet the lion in his cave.

The goat went inside the cave first. Sometime later, the sheep went inside bleating. The sheep was followed by a calf who was keen to hear the lion's testament.

After sometime, the lion came out of the cave. He saw a fox standing near the cave mouth. The lion said, 'O little fox! You are my guest. I think you have come to hear my testament and final will. I insist that you ckme inside'.

But the fox was cunning. She said, 'O mighty lion, I am keenly waiting for  the animals who went inside to see you. While I see the footprints entering the cave, none of the footprints shoe that those animals have returned'.

Hearing this, the lion grew angry. He feared that the fox might go and narrate the event to other animals in the jungle.

'If the  fox makes her way out ftom here, she would narrate the entire event to other animals of the jungle. My idea of easy prey shall fail and none of the animals shall ever come to me again', thought the lion.

The lion became secure. He immediately rose up and ran towards the fox to attract her.

The fox was every quick. She ran away in the vast wild and escaped the  lion's attack.

Moral: It is easier to get into the enemy's toils than out again.
