The Oil in the Lamp

Archarya Chanakya was known far and wide for political wisdom.

One night when the moon stood waxed and there was acute darkness all around, Chanakya sat near an oil lit lamp scripting some important text.

A Chinese traveler who had traveled for months together came to see Chanakya. He entered Chanakya's room and greeted him.

Chanakya warmly welcomed him. He greeted him and then resumed his writing work. Soon as he completed his work, he blew off the lamp and lightened another one.

The traveler was surprised and asked Chanakya if it was a customary practice that they followed in India to blow one lamp and light new one in grace of visitor.
Hearing the traveler, Chanakya smiled back. He said, 'Friend, the lamp which was glowing earlier had oil bought from national treasury and I used its light for official work. Now when I shall talk to you, I shall lit the lamp bought from my earning'.

Moral: Never misuse what is provided to you or you have access to.
