4. Aesop's Tales : The Bats

Once there was a fierce fight between beasts and birds.
The birds cruely pecked at the beasts and then flew away. The beasts were hurt and helpless. The bats saw the fight, but themselves from involving in it. They know they were half bird half-beast because they could fly but laid no eggs. So, they decided to side the one who wins at the end.

The fight went on for days and when birds seemed to be on the winning side, the bats took on their side. Similarly, when the beast appeared to be winners, bats switched to their side.
Several days passed in fight and mockery. The birds and beasts gradually became tired of fighting and decided to make peace.

The King of birds and the King of beasts came together to settle the matter. They decided to forget past and begin a peaceful life henceforth. The two of them very well understood that bats were opportunists and hence decided to keep them out.
So the birds and beasts starting living happily together. On the other hand, the bats were left alone. They felt ashamed of themselves and hid themselves in dark crevices and caves. They came out only during night when birds and beasts slept in their nests and dens respectively.

Moral : People who switch to winning and powerful sides are untrustful and unworthy of friendship.
