158. Aesop's Tales : The Hare And The Turtle

Once upon a time there lived a hare in a forest. The hare had a turtle friend. They played together and had food together every afternoon.

The hare ran very fast but the turtle walked slowly. So the hare was proud of himself and often praised himself in front of turtle and other animals. The turtle was sad and thought of an idea.

The turtle asked the hare to run a race with him to reach the forest pond. They started the race and all animals gathered to see them.

The hare was happy and confident. He ran very fast in the beginning while the turtle came slowly after him. Soon hare was much ahead of turtle. He was tired due fast running and stopped to see the turtle. The turtle was far behind and hare thought he should rest before he runs again to reach the pond. So, the hare stretched himself and lied down to rest. He soon feel asleep.

While the hare was sleeping, the turtle kept walking slowly and continuously. He came across the place where hare was sleeping and walked ahead.

The turtle soon reached the pond and the animals cheered the turtle for his victory. Hearing the animals the hare woke up. He stretched and drank water before he starting running to reach the pond.  When he reached the pond, he saw the turtle smiling. The hare was ashamed for being proudy and overconfident.


Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.
