5. Aesop's Fables -The Lion and the Statue

One day a man and his friend who was a lion were arguing about the strength of man and lion.

The lion said, 'We lions are ferocious animals. All animals and humans fear our valour. We can kill the as we desire'.

The man countered, 'We humans are stronger than lions as we have intelligence greater than any other animal. Look how humans have evolved. They are now civilized and their socio-economic systems. They have developed and propagated the use of various sciences and humanatic. They have been evolving technology like never before. They certainly know how to tame wild animals and have sophisticated means to trap and medicate them no matter how strong the animals are'.

The argument went on for a long time, until the man said, 'Friend, I will give an example to prove that humans surpass the lions in strength'.

'Sure', said the lion and they went together to a public garden.

The man showed a huge statue of Hercules overcoming the lion and tearing apart his mouth. He said to the lion, 'Here is an example, not only we humans are great in intelligence, we have the ability to surpass the lions in their physical strength as well'.

'O !', said the lion, 'but this stature was build according to an artistic fantasy. It proves nothing'.

The man was wordless. He returned with the lion and learned that certain things are proved only by actions and with time.

"That is all very well," said the Lion, "but proves nothing, for it was a man who made the statue."

Moral: It is easy to represent things as we wish them to be.
