18. Aesop's Fables - The Belly and the Body Members

One day all parts of body got together and complained against the belly. They said, 'We all work all day, while the belly sits having all the food alone. The body parts decided to go on a strike and stop working, until the belly consented to share work with them.

Next day the body parts, other than the belly went on strike. Thus, the hand refused to bring food to the mouth, the mouth refused to take food on its own, while the teeth sat idle as it received no food to chew.

After few days, the body members grew weak- the hands were unable to move, the eyes were heavy due to fatigue, mouth became dry and parched, legs came so weak that they were unable to bear the body weight. The body members however saw the belly was trying hard to support the body. Though the belly was in bad condition, it was working for the body.

The body members soon realized their mistake. They understood that the belly take food to provide energy to entire body and no part can work in isolation.

They decided to work mutual and coordinate to make the body function well.

Moral: All must work together.
