The Farmer And His Wife

Rama was a farmer who lived with his wife in a village. Everyday before Rama went to the farm, his wife prepared meal for him, gave him tea and breakfast.

But Rama was dissatisfied with the way his wife worked. He said, 'Woman! You spend your day by working slowly. You can do much more than what are doing'.

The poor wife was wrecked to hear her husband. She angrily said, 'Men can work more, sly more and speak more. Can you prove that you can work more?'

Rama agreed. The wife went on, 'Tomorrow I shall go to the farm to prove that I can work equally well as you do on the farm. You should prove that you can handle all the household work as I do - wake up before daybreak and milk the cows. Arrange the firewood, feed the pigs and hens. Fetch water from the well and store it. Clean the house and the utensils. Then prepare the meal. Clean and dry laundry. Spin the yarn'.

Next day, Rama woke up at his usual timing. His wife went to fields with stale bread.

Rama first went to milk the cow. With much difficulty he was able to get some milk, but the cow kicked and the entire milk spilled. He borrowed milk from neighbors for tea.

He arranged the firewood and watered the plants. But feed the pig and hens with but forgot to give them water. He went to draw water from the well, but slipped and hurt his toe. He was unable to do the cleaning. He tried preparing the lentil rice mix for meal but it took him long to set the fire. When the fire was set, he suddenly fell asleep and the food was spoiled by burning. The house of filled with smoke and smell of burned food He was stuck with extreme coughing. And spinning the yarn ? Was there any task like that?

When his wife returned late in the evening, Rama felt ashamed at himself and his use of bad words for her. He humbly apologized to her. From that day onwards, Rama respected his wife and the work she did. He appreciated her efforts and never found any faults in her.
