106. Aesop's Fables - The Lamb and the Wolf

Once there lived a little lamb on a farm. One day the lamb's mother (sheep) was slaughtered. The lamb became motherless and escaped from the farm.

While it was roaming around merrily, grazing on dew laden grass, he heard a wolf yelping around. It caught the lamb's attention and when he looked around, he saw a wolf approaching him. The lamb ran fast as he could, while the wolf came chasing him.

The lamb came near the village temple and took refuge in its inner court. The wolf called the lamb saying, ' I pity you little lamb. The temple priest is a merciless man, he will first feed you, then slaughter you in the festival day. Come to me, I will take to my home in forest'.

The lamb bleated and laughed back. He replied to the wolf, 'I will be happy to be
sacrificed in this temple of God, rather than be killed by you'.

The wolf left the temple place and the lamb was reared lovingly by the temple priest.
