93. Aesop Fables - The Fox and the Goat

Once there lived a goat on a farm. One day the goat went out the farm to roam around. It came near a well. The goat wondered if it could get some water from the well.

The well was very deep. The goat peeped into the well and saw a fox swimming on it.

The fox was very cunning. He saw the goat and asked him, ‘O friend, are you coming down here?’

The goat nodded saying no to the fox.

The fox said, ‘Friend, haven’t you heard that the forest prophet has forecasted a terrible drought this year? I am going down this well to ensure that I have water all through the dry season. I think friend you should come with me’.

The goat was convinced by the fox. As he jumped down into the well, the fox immediately jumped on his back, and leapt out of the well. The goat was pushed into the well. It cried for help but the fox laughed out on her foolishness.

The goat died by drowning in the well and the fox walked away happily.

Moral: Never trust a man who is in difficulty.
