94. Aesop's Fables - The Cock and the Pearl

Once there lived a cock on farm. The farm had many other hens and cocks.

One day the cock was playing on the farm. He merrily strutted up and down the farmyard with other hens which were his playmates. While they were playing, the cock suddenly saw something shinning in the straw spread all around. He exclaimed with joy, ‘O see! There is a glittery gift for me’ and rushed towards it.

He fluttered his wings and flew away the straw with his feet taking hold of the glittering pearl in his small beak.

Looking at the pearl, the cock said, ‘It looks like this precious pearl was lost in this yard. Men price this pearl, but for me it is worthless. For me a single barley-corn is more worthy than a peck of pearls’.

Moral: Certain things are precious things only for those that can prize them.
