Aesop's Fables - The Lion and the Three Bulls

Once there lived three bulls in a forest. They were good friends, and always kept close to each other. They pastured together and slept closely by.

The forest lion was keen to prey on the bulls, but feared that if he attacked any one of them, they would collectively hurt him with their horns.

One day, the lion went to the bulls and started talking to them in a friendly manner. Days passed by and he gained trust of the bulls as their friend. One day the lion said, 'Friend, you drink this muddy water from the swallow pond. Come with me I will show you the fresh water river which flows near my cave. You can drink water and later take your friends to the river'.

The bull agreed and went along with the lion. The lion took the bull to his cave, where he killed the bull and ate it.

After some day, the lion returned to the pasteur. When the two bulls saw the lion, they became angry and asked him,'Where is our friend? Tell us or we will kill you'.

The lion started crying. He said, 'Friends, I took him to the river to drink fresh water, but he went to far in the river and drowned himself! Its been days, that I have been waiting for him, but he will never come back again'.

The bulls were convinced by the lion's argument. They cried for their friend too. That night the bulls were very sad for their lost friend. They ate no grass and slept far from each. The lion saw the bulls sleeping far from each and attacked one of them in the middle of the night. He dragged the corpse into the forest to escape the eye of last bull.

After some days, the lion came to the pasteur again. He roared at the bull who was gazing alone in the pasture and killed it.

Moral:  Union is strength (in other words, united we stand, divided we fall).
