53. Aesop's Fables - The Mountains in Labor

Once there was a small village near the countryside mountains. The mountains were lofty and remained covered with snow during winters.

During summers, the mountains were covered with rich vegetation. The village animals went up the mountain for gazing. It was a peaceful countryside, and people lived happily.

One summer morning, the country folk saw smoke emitting from the mountain peak. The Earth was quaking.  Large pieces of rocks and boulders came rolling down from the mountain. The tress on the mountain stumbled. The country folks were sacred. They all gathered and watched in fear. They prayed to God to save them from any calamity.

The country folks waited for the quake to subside. The day went by and in the evening when the sun was about to set, a huge gap appeared at the side of mountain. The people fell on their knees and pleaded God to save them. Just then they saw a mouse struggling under the mountain. The mouse poked its head out of the mountain and came running out. The mountain fell back on its position and the quake receded. The people laughed and thanked God.

Moral: Much outcry, little outcome.
