44. Aesop's Fables - The Fox and the Lion

Once a little fox lived in a jungle.

The little fox lost his parents and was on its own. He went about roaming in the forest, when he suddenly saw a lion. He was terrified to see the mighty beasts and ran away hiding himself behind the thick bushes.

The little fox trembled with fear. He soon fell asleep.

Next day, the fox went about in search of food. While he searched, he jumped and played around. But again, he saw the lion coming towards his direction. The little fox was worried. But he gathered strength and stopped there. The lion passed by him. The fox rejoiced.

Days passed by. One day the fox was returning after drinking water from the pool. When he saw the lion coming towards the pool. The fox waited for the lion to come. After the lion drank water the fox said, 'O mighty lion! Its a privilege to met you'.

Together they sat by the poolside. A pleasant cool breeze blew while they talked to each. They shared their likes, dislikes and told each other about their family and friends.

The fox became a good friend with the lion. They parted from each other, well wishing each other with hope to see each other soon.

Days passed by. One afternoon, when the fox was having its meal it saw the lion coming its way. The fox quickly finished its meal, grabbed dome part of it in its jaws and slipped away quietly. He did not bother to express his pleasure to see his friend or greet him.

Moral: Familiarity breeds contempt.
