One day Birbal commented on Akbar’s sense of humor. This enraged Akbar. He expelled Birbal from his court and asked him to leave his capital - the city of Agra as well.
Birbal was stuck by Akbar's display of anger. He was hurt and felt miserable. Akbar was not ready accept his apologies. Birbal was helpless and finally left the court of Akbar in dismay.
Few days passed by. Akbar felt incomplete without Birbal. He missed him and could not put his mind in stately matters. He abruptly left the court and could not eat as well. When the queen saw Akbar, she suggested that Birbal was a loyal and humble courtier and Akbar should consider calling him back.
Akbar reconsidered his decision and decided to call Birbal back. He send his men to find Birbal but they returned in vain. No one in the town knew where Birbal was.
One day a sage came to Akbar's court. The sage had served Akbar's ancestors and was known for his intelligence and great powers. He gave a plan to Akbar and left the court.
Soon Akbar send his men to make an announcement - 'Anyone who comes to the court of Great Emperor Akbar in half shade and sun, shall be rewarded with one thousand gold coins'.
Next day a man came to Akbar's court. The man carried jute cot over his head. He said, 'My Majesty, I have come to your court in half sun and in half shade'.
Akbar was delighted. He rewarded the ma and asked him how he got the idea. After hours of pressing interrogation the man confessed saying, 'Birbal has been staying in my house. He suggested me this idea'. Akbar laughed hearing this. He asked the man to take his orders to Birbal asking him to come back.
When Birbal received Akbar's message, he was overjoyed. He thanked the man and returned to Agra. Akbar was elated to see Birbal and they had a happy reunion.
