In Dreamland

A disciple of Soyen Shaku said, "my schoolmaster took a nap every afternoon."

When the students asked him why, he reasoned, "When I take nap, I go to a dreamland to see meet the old sages there, just as the great scholar Confucius did."

When Confucius slept, he would dream of ancient sages and later tell his followers about them.

One after it was very hot. Some of the students took nap. Seeing this, the teacher scolded them. The students said,"We went to meet sages in dreamland, just like Confucius did."

The teacher asked the students, "So tell me the message you received from the sages there."

One of the students replied, "In the dreamland, we asked the sages if our schoolmaster came to meet them every afternoon. But the sages denied and told us they have never ben visited by such fellow.'"
